- Totally agree - but we're too busy with 'wars' to protect the interests of big oil... and the looming debt crisis... and 'entitlements'... sadly... Now the private sector...

- I think a handful of 1%-er's like Gates, Jobs, etc. should just pool some of their cash hoard and do it privately. Think of it: a Moon Base, funded by iPods and Windows7! Talk about corporate sponsorship!

- We're still there because the military industrial complex is profiting tremendously from the war. And, there are incredible natural resources in that country - metals, minerals, etc. - to be mined and exploited. All you have to do is follow the money...

- Peter17: we care because it's coming at the expense of, and from the productivity of, the other 99%. In the US today, and in the world, the few are getting more BECAUSE the others are getting less. Why has poverty increased in the US while the wealthy have become far more so?

- But our kids are number one in self esteem and diabetes! Global Capitalism does not work when the playing field is not level. And when CEO's and the 1% care only for amassing more wealth at the expense of the rest of the people in this country and world. How much is enough, 1%?

Your thoughts on working your way through college and graduating debt free are commendable. However, that is not always possible. For example, our granddaughter is in her third year of law school. The first thing they told her when she started her education there is, "Forget about working after school. You won't have time. Study will take ALL your time". In fact, they forbade the students from working.

Fortunately, she is a straight A student and was granted scholarships that took care of about 75% of her tuition. Nevertheless, she had to take out loans to pay for her food and shelter. We are helping her by paying for her books every semester.
